Course Overview

This 6-month program by the Indian Federation of Yoga (IFY) is designed to train aspiring yoga professionals in the traditional science of yoga combined with modern teaching methodologies. Graduates will be equipped to lead group classes, offer personalized yoga sessions, and contribute to community wellness programs globally.

 

 MODULE-WISE SYLLABUS


Yoga Philosophy & Ethics 

  1. Origin & lineage of Yoga (Vedas, Upanishads, Gita, Sutras)
  2. Purpose of Yoga – self-realization and wellness
  3. Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga & the concept of Chitta Vrittis (5 vrittis, Nirodha, Prasadan)
  4. Four paths of Yoga: Bhakti, Jnana, Karma, Raja
  5. Pancha Koshas (5 Layers of Being)
  6. Trigunas & Tridoshas
  7. Yamas and Niyamas – Yogic code of conduct
  8. Role and responsibilities of a yoga instructor

Asana Techniques & Teaching - Classical and Contemporary Postures 

Categorized as:

  1. Standing –  Tadasana ,Trikonasana, Vrikshasana, Virabhadrasana(1,2,3),Padahasthasana, Ardhachakrasana, Natarajasana, Garudasana.
  2. Seated – Vajrasana, Padmasana , Paschimottanasana, Ardhamatsyendrasana, Naukasana , Ushtrasana, Bhadrasana.
  3. Prone-  Bhujangasana, Sarpasana, Dhanurasana, Shalabhasana, Vipritanaukasana.
  4. Supine – Ardha halasana, Halasana, Setubandhasana,  Pawanmuktasana Spinal Twisting, Chakrasana, Sarvangasana .
  5. Alignment, correction, and sequencing
  6. Adjustments, use of props, and modifications for various body types
  7. Introduction, Method to do, Benefits , limitation , Therapy , Anatomy &Physiology , Do`s & Don`ts   of all the Above Asanas.

Pranayama & Bandha 

  1. Breath awareness & yogic breathing
  2. Nadi Shodhana, Bhastrika, Kapalabhati, Bhramari, Sheetali & Sheetkari
  3. Introduction to Bandhas (Jalandhara, Uddiyana, Moola)
  4. Breath and energy management (Prana Vayu theory)

Meditation & Yogic Relaxation 
  1. Guided relaxation (Shavasana, Yoga Nidra)
  2. Om chanting & mantra-based meditation
  3. Breath-focused mindfulness
  4. Antar Mouna (Inner Silence Practice)
  5. Trataka (Candle Gazing) for focus and clarity

Anatomy & Physiology 
  1. Functional anatomy relevant to yoga
  2. Musculoskeletal system & safe posture practices
  3. Nervous, respiratory, digestive & endocrine systems
  4. Role of yoga in metabolic health & stress management
  5. Body awareness and injury prevention

Teaching Methodology & Class Design 

  1. Class planning: warm-up, core asana flow, cool-down
  2. Age-specific and goal-oriented session design
  3. Communication, cueing, and voice control
  4. Group class management & special needs considerations
  5. Observation & student assessment techniques
  6. Teaching practicum with feedback and peer review

Karma Yoga & Yogic Living 

  1. Living a yogic lifestyle (Dinacharya, Ritucharya)
  2. Yogic diet principles (Sattvic, Rajasic, Tamasic)
  3. Karma yoga: teaching in public spaces, seva activities
  4. Community wellness and health promotion through yoga

Assessment & Certification

  1. Theory: Philosophy, anatomy, and yoga applications
  2. Practical: Asana demonstration, pranayama, and teaching practice
  3. Project/Internship: Conduct minimum 10 classes independently
  4. Minimum 80% attendance required for certification

 

Certification Awarded

Certified Yoga Instructor – Indian Federation of Yoga (IFY)
Eligible to teach beginner and intermediate yoga classes globally.
